VIOLENCE. A municipal police officer from the City of Montpellier was assaulted on Saturday evening following the Ligue 1 football match between MHSC and En Avant de Guingamp at the Stade de la Mosson.
At the crowded Mosson tram stop on Line 1, near the stadium, two intoxicated men who had just been watching the match came to blows. A municipal police officer who was at the scene stepped in and tried to separate the two men.
One of them then punched the policewoman in the face; she sustained minor injuries and was taken to the A&E department at the University Hospital. The attacker, a young adult, was immediately apprehended by the victim’s colleagues and handed over to officers from the Public Security Department. He was in police custody on Sunday morning after being released from the drunk tank.
