PROTECTION. Following on from the fire and rescue centres in Albi and Carmaux, the firefighters at the Castres station have now also received their new firefighting uniforms. A working group met for over a year to design a new operational firefighting uniform, comprising orange jackets and over-trousers that are lighter, more visible and more ergonomic. These uniforms have been designed to allow firefighters to move more comfortably whilst on call. Gone are the chrome helmets: the Tarn Fire and Rescue Service has opted for yellow F1 XF helmets. These painted helmets are less prone to thermal deformation and therefore more stable in the heat. An added bonus is that they are not electrically conductive. All firefighters in the department will be equipped with this new kit by 2023.
