On Thursday, a gas explosion occurred in Altkirch, in the Haut-Rhin department: three firefighters and two gendarmes were injured and taken to hospital, but, fortunately, their injuries are not life-threatening.
A firefighter thrown out of a window
The emergency services had been alerted to the smell of gas, and when the first pair of firefighters entered the flat, an explosion occurred. The blast was so powerful that one of the firefighters was thrown out of a first-floor window.
When the explosion occurred, police officers were present and two of them were injured.
Police units and around forty firefighters were deployed for this operation.
The toll could have been much higher, as the building had been completely evacuated before the explosion.
