On Wednesday 15 March, a firefighter was assaulted whilst responding to a fire at a detached house in Saint-Pierre-du-Val. Firefighters from the Beuzeville station were dispatched to the scene by the emergency call centre as soon as the emergency call was received. The head of the emergency services centre was part of the crew; he was violently attacked by the son of the owners of the burning house. The young man reportedly accused the emergency services of arriving too late. The firefighter was immediately taken to hospital, where he was given five days’ sick leave, and he filed a complaint against his attacker with the gendarmes of the Pont-Audemer brigade. The firefighters spent much of the afternoon battling to bring the blaze under control; the fire completely destroyed the house.
