BASTELICA (2A)

Hello everyone, Since yesterday evening, a major scrub fire has been raging in the municipality of Bastelica in the department of Southern Corsica. According to our latest information, during the fire-fighting operations, five firefighters were injured and four vehicles were damaged by the flames. The fire is reported to have spread across nearly 40 hectares, according to Corsican media. A major operation is underway, with around a hundred firefighters mobilised, support from the civil protection services in Corté, and aerial resources (two Canadair aircraft) deployed since this morning. Update at 11.00: The fire has spread across nearly 300 hectares of scrubland, according to the South Corsica Prefecture. Update at 9.00 pm: The fire is now under control thanks to the intervention of the Canadair aircraft and the help of the rain. The fire has spread across more than 400 hectares of scrubland. The fire mobilised nearly 150 firefighters from SDIS 2A and 2B, as well as the Civil Protection rescue team from Corté. Photo (Official SDIS 2A page).
