Army: cyber defence crisis management exercise

From 20 March to 31 March, the DEFNET joint exercise aims to provide training – as it has done every year for the past four years – in the field of cyber defence. Its objective is to make the deployment of operational units more effective in order to counter a cyber threat. It brings together 155 military personnel and 240 students; the growing importance of the digital domain is a strategic priority for the Army, which, as such, maintains specialised units in this field, such as the 785th Electronic Warfare Company (785th CGE) and the 807th Signals Company (807th CT). This commitment to developing competent and operationally ready personnel is also reflected in training programmes; new courses are therefore being offered at the Signals School in Cesson-Sévigné and at the Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan schools. A BTS in Digital Systems, specialising in IT and Networks (BTS SN IR), is also available at the Saint-Cyr-l’École secondary school. Cyber security is also one of the guiding principles of the SCORPION programme, launched in 2014, where increasingly connected equipment requires a high level of IT security.   Photo credit: French Army 2017
