The Paris Fire Brigade (BSPP) continues to set itself apart through its innovation within the fire service. The latest development involves the trial of a driverless emergency and victim assistance vehicle (VSAV). This autonomous capability does not replace the need for a driver to operate the vehicle in emergency situations, but is intended solely for transport purposes to free up staff. Sensors fitted at the front and rear of the vehicle enable it to anticipate upcoming obstacles. A camera is mounted at the front of the vehicle and linked to a tablet, allowing the commander to view the road ahead from the cab and, if required, to stop the vehicle and resume driving manually.
