In view of the terrorist threat and the 70,000 motorcyclists expected this weekend around the Bugatti Circuit in Le Mans, security arrangements are being adapted to include a wide range of measures, covering both public safety and civil protection operations.
Public safety resources: 450 police officers and CRS officers, as well as 385 gendarmes from the departmental gendarmerie and the mobile gendarmerie, are on hand to carry out checks and ensure that this annual event runs smoothly. A bomb disposal team and seven dog-handling teams (whose dogs are specialised in detecting explosives and narcotics) are providing additional support to the police. Civil protection resources: A track medical centre, a spectators’ medical centre and two ambulances are managed by the organisers. 250 firefighters from the SDIS and one SAMU team have been mobilised and deployed across two posts to provide operational cover both inside and outside the circuit. 240 volunteer first-aiders from accredited civil protection organisations have also been brought in to bolster the emergency response team.Le Mans 24 Hours: Extensive security measures
