A man armed with two knives and a hammer attempted to attack a police officer on duty on the forecourt of Notre Dame de Paris. The officer fired his service weapon and wounded the man. The attacker was treated by the SAMU and taken to hospital. The public – around 900 people – were kept inside the cathedral. They will now be able to start leaving gradually. The Cité (Line 4) and Cluny (Line 10) metro stations are closed, and the Saint-Michel Notre Dame RER B station is also closed. The Home Secretary, Gérard Collomb, is on his way to the scene.
