A police operation is currently underway on the Champs-Élysées; the Paris Police Headquarters is asking people to avoid the area. A vehicle collided with a mobile Gendarmerie van and subsequently caught fire. The 31-year-old driver was on the ‘S’ list. No members of the security forces were injured. The Home Secretary has announced the death of the attacker. "Once again, the security forces in France have been targeted. The threat level is extremely high," said Gérard Collomb. He described the incident as an attempted attack. The attacker was confirmed dead by the Minister of the Interior. A gas cylinder, a weapon and an identity card were found in the car. The Paris anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office has taken charge of the investigation.
