The Liège Criminal Court has sentenced a man in his sixties to a six-month suspended prison sentence.
The man did not come to the aid of his unconscious wife, whom he had assumed was dead; instead, he chose to make himself a cup of coffee before calling the emergency services.
The investigation revealed that his wife was not dead when he found her unconscious, but that she could have received medical treatment.
The court considers that he should have raised the alarm sooner in an attempt to save his wife’s life.
