Upon seeing the police, two individuals fled in a Renault Twingo, knocking down a police officer.
The two colleagues then opened fire on the fleeing vehicle, which eventually crashed into a road sign before coming to rest on its roof.
The driver died despite the rapid response of the fire brigade. The passenger was unharmed and has been arrested.
The General Inspectorate of the National Police has launched an investigation.
