Levallois-Perret (92): Six soldiers from Operation Sentinelle attacked by a vehicle

At 7.55 am this morning, soldiers from Operation Sentinelle were struck by a vehicle on Place de Verdun in Levallois-Perret. Of the six people injured, two soldiers were seriously injured but their lives are not in danger. They were taken to Percy and Bégin hospitals. Florence Parly, Minister for the Armed Forces, condemns “this cowardly act in the strongest possible terms” and offers “her full support to the injured, as well as to their comrades and families”. “The ongoing investigation will determine his motives and the circumstances in which he acted.” An investigation into the “attempted murder of a public official in connection with a criminal terrorist enterprise” has been launched by the Anti-Terrorism Sub-Directorate. The Regional Directorate of the Judicial Police, the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police and the Directorate-General for Internal Security are leading this investigation. A man was arrested at around 1.30 pm on the A16 motorway near Marquise; he was travelling in a black BMW 2 Series. The arrest was carried out by the BRI units from Lille and Rouen. Shots were exchanged during the arrest. The 37-year-old suspect was shot five times and was taken to hospital. A BRI officer was shot in the thigh; his life is not in danger.
