A fire broke out this morning at around 11.30 am in the commune of Saint-Pons-De-Mauchiens (34) Update at 1.50 pm: The fire that broke out this morning has flared up again violently and has already burnt 1 hectare. A large number of resources have been deployed as the fire is extremely intense and is raging through a pine forest. Currently in operation are: Update at 3.00 pm: 7th Giff deployed + 5 CCGCs + 3 For Sap teams + 2 supply groups + 3 Air Tractors + 3 Canadairs. 10 hectares have already been burnt. Update at 17:00: 50 to 60 hectares burnt. Fire still raging. Reinforcements from SDIS 11 and the Civil Protection service based in Lézignan-Corbière. 3 GIFF units 3 Air Tractors + 1 command helicopter + 2 CCGCs + 1 VPCS Sso + request for national resources.
Update at 5.17 pm: The Occitan unit has arrived on the scene + the St Pons fire brigade is on its way.
Update: By 6.00 pm, 300 hectares had been covered.
Edit: 8 am this morning. The fire is thought to have spread 7 to 8 km from Saint-Pons-de-Mauchien, then towards Saint-Pargoire and Villeveyrac.
The area burnt, as estimated since 11.30 am yesterday, is approximately 500 hectares of pine forest and scrubland.
It also led to the evacuation of around 400 people.
As things stand, the fire was brought under control during the night but is still being monitored.
