A car deliberately drove into a pizzeria in Sept-Sorts, in the north of Seine-et-Marne. A 12-year-old girl was killed; there are also five people with life-threatening injuries, including a three-year-old child who was airlifted to Necker Hospital, and eight people with less serious injuries.
A BMW crashed into the terrace of the pizzeria. The driver was arrested by the police. Initial findings from the investigation appear to rule out a terrorist motive; the driver told investigators that he had intended to commit suicide. He tested positive for drugs and had taken medication, but he was not known to the police.
The investigation has been handed over to the Paris Criminal Investigation Division.
