Joint training between the Gendarmerie and the Guardia Civil
On Wednesday 23 August, an administrative agreement on strengthening Franco-Spanish cooperation was signed between the National Gendarmerie and the Guardia Civil.
The two security forces have set up a joint training programme lasting nine months.
120 gendarmes trained in Spain
From early October to the end of June, 120 French police cadets will join their counterparts in the Guardia in Valdemoro (Spain) to undertake the same training programme. The programme comprises 900 hours of joint training, including 250 hours of language lessons.
A police union estimates that this training, costing 1.5 million euros, is excessive.
If this project proves successful, new partnerships could be established with other European security forces
