The Marseille Naval Fire Brigade has launched a new recruitment campaign. It is highly visible, as it is on display outside all the barracks. The battalion’s objective is clear: to increase its personnel numbers.
As it does every year, the battalion organises several recruitment days, during which the physical fitness and psychological suitability of candidates from all regions are put to the test.
Recruitment
To be eligible to join this unit of the French Navy, candidates must undergo a series of interviews and tests. However, they must also meet specific requirements: they must be French nationals, in full possession of their civil rights, of good character, have completed the Defence and Citizenship Day (JDC), be aged between 18 and 26, have an educational level ranging from Year 9 to a three-year higher education qualification, and hold a Category B driving licence.
And, of course, being a sailor means knowing how to swim. It’s essential. Recruitment takes place at the nearest Cirfa – the Armed Forces Information and Recruitment Centre – to your local area, or directly at the recruitment office of the Marseille Marine Fire Brigade.
The tests
Once they have met all the requirements, candidates undergo several motivational interviews, a medical examination, an interview with a psychologist, psychometric tests and fitness tests. Full details and the assessment criteria can be found on the BMPM website.
