A soldier serving with Operation Sentinelle took his 5.56mm Famas rifle, placed the barrel against his head and fired. The 26-year-old took his own life on Friday evening shortly before midnight. His comrades tried to resuscitate him, but to no avail. He was pronounced dead by the ambulance doctor an hour later.
The incident took place at the French Navy’s premises on Rue Saint-Dominique, where the soldier serving with Operation Sentinelle was stationed. The young soldier was alone in his room on the second floor. An investigation has been launched by the National Gendarmerie.
