Aisne: Three gendarmes attacked whilst on duty

On Friday evening, the gendarmes were called out to deal with an incident of retaliation following an attempted murder in the Blangy neighbourhood of Hirson. Upon arriving at the scene, the patrol – consisting of three gendarmes – was attacked. One officer suffered a head injury requiring 12 days’ complete sick leave. His two colleagues sustained minor injuries; one was bitten and the other was struck in the nose. The PSIG, the criminal investigation unit and gendarmes from Vervins quickly joined their colleagues in Hirson to provide assistance. The victim of the attempted murder sustained 17 lead pellets, and her two attackers were tried in summary proceedings. They were sentenced to two years’ imprisonment.
