The 3,000 officers of the General Surveillance Service (SUGE), the SNCF’s rail police force, are set to be equipped with a new weapon from next year, according to our colleagues atActu17.fr.

According to the same source, this change is said to be due to "an ageing fleet that requires a great deal of maintenance, the cumbersome importation of cartridges from the United States, and an ever-increasing terrorist threat". That’s enough to call the current five-shot revolver into question.

The new weapon due to be issued to SUGE officers in the near future is reportedly the SIG Sauer P320 automatic pistol, with a 15-round magazine.
