Paris: a soldier serving with Operation Sentinelle attacked with a knife
At around 6.30 am this Friday morning, a soldier serving with Operation Sentinelle was attacked by a man armed with a knife at the Châtelet–Les Halles metro station.
Whilst on patrol as part of the Vigipirate security operation, an individual approached a soldier from behind, shouting Islamic slogans, and attempted to slash his throat with a knife.
The soldiers quickly apprehended him; no one was injured.
The attacker had been known to the police since 2008 and had been a member of an organisation supporting radical Islamism.
The counter-terrorism unit has been called in, and officers from 36 Quai des Orfèvres are leading the investigation.
