In response to the shortage of volunteer firefighters, a plan to reorganise operational staff provides for a reduction in the number of firefighters on duty and on call at several fire and rescue stations between 10 pm and 7 am. The CGT union at SDIS 22 believes that “management is taking advantage of the situation to make savings” and fears a deterioration in service. Colonel S. Morin, the departmental director, insists that there is no question of reducing the number of firefighters (both professional and volunteer) in the department. The reorganisation is due to be presented to the SDIS board of directors on Friday 6 October.
