The Ligue 1 match between Amiens and Lille was halted in the 16th minute following a serious incident on Saturday evening. A barrier in the away end at the Amiens stadium collapsed, causing several dozen supporters to fall two metres.
29 people were injured; several victims were taken to Amiens University Hospital, including five in critical condition. The ORSEC (Civil Security Response Organisation) plan, under the Novi (Multiple Casualties) protocol, was activated to coordinate the rescue operation and the care of the victims. Volunteer first-aiders, firefighters, CRS officers and police officers arrived swiftly to provide first aid.
The match has been definitively called off by the league representative following consultations with both clubs, but could go ahead behind closed doors on Sunday. The public prosecutor in Amiens has announced the opening of an urgent investigation into “causing bodily harm through negligence”.
