Rennes: increase in resources for the municipal police
Rennes is set to recruit 12 new municipal police officers to increase its workforce to 73 officers.
The main duties of these new officers will be to carry out patrols and neighbourhood watch schemes. They will be equipped with cut-resistant vests, tear gas and telescopic batons. The officers had requested to be issued with firearms, but this request was refused by the town council.
A canine unit is to be established on 1 January 2018, comprising four officers.
The town is to install 32 new CCTV cameras, and body-worn cameras have been issued to officers since 1 October to enhance their safety and reduce conflicts during operations.
