At around 2 am on Saturday, a Paris firefighter was violently struck by a motorbike on Rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine (11th arrondissement). At the time of the collision, he and his colleague were carrying a casualty on a stretcher.
These firefighters from the Chaligny fire station had been assisting a woman who had fainted on the metro. They did not have time to reach their vehicle when a scooter came hurtling towards them at high speed.
The victim on the stretcher was also injured in the collision.
Two ambulances from the Massena and Ménilmontant fire stations, and one from Samu Hôtel Dieu, were dispatched as reinforcements.
The scooter rider suffered multiple head injuries; the other casualty was in a relatively serious condition. The firefighter was in a critical condition and was transferred to the Percy military hospital. His condition is no longer life-threatening.
