Hauts-de-Seine: Suicide at the gendarmerie headquarters

This Sunday, Commissioner A. Boutonnet was found unresponsive on the premises of the National Gendarmerie’s headquarters. He is believed to have taken his own life with his service weapon; whilst investigators do not yet know the reasons why, he was reportedly struggling to cope with his recent transfer. He was not on duty that Sunday. He had joined the anti-hooliganism unit when it was set up in 2009; in February 2017, he was transferred to the Sub-Directorate for Operational Planning (SDAO) within the General Directorate of the National Gendarmerie. He had been particularly involved in strengthening security inside and around football stadiums; in particular, he helped implement the ‘Leroux Plan’ to maintain order in the stands at the Parc des Princes during PSG matches. He was one of the security officers responsible for Euro 2016. A. Boutonnet had also served as a reservist. Sadly, this is the sixth suicide among law enforcement officers in a week.
