New York: A fire has mobilised more than 300 firefighters

This Friday, at 3 pm (local time), a fire broke out inside a six-storey block of flats in the Hamilton Heights neighbourhood of New York City. The fire started in a small corner flat on the top floor before spreading to 41 flats, fuelled by winds of 40 km/h. The response was quickly scaled up to a six-alarm operation. More than 300 firefighters from the renowned New York Fire Department were mobilised to bring the blaze under control. Four firefighters and one civilian sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

At 5 pm, the fire was still not under control, and the roof and attic had collapsed.

The police have closed the roads for a few blocks around the building on fire.
