According to Gérard Collomb, the Minister of the Interior, police officers “will remain armed” whilst off duty, even after the state of emergency has ended.
The issue had been called into question on Saturday evening following the triple murder committed by a police officer before he took his own life.
During an interview on the programme *Questions politiques*, broadcast on France Info, France Inter and Le Monde, Gérard Collomb stated that off-duty police officers "They will remain armed – there is no problem"
Following the attacks of 13 November 2015, law enforcement officers were granted the right to carry their service weapons at all times.
To carry their weapons whilst off duty, they must declare this and have completed at least three shooting training sessions per year.
The Home Secretary emphasised the importance of the responsibility borne by senior officers. “You are faced with contradictions that you must learn to manage. This requires a great deal of attention from senior police officers.”
