On New Year’s Eve, there will be those who are out celebrating and those who are on duty. Since 2004, this road safety initiative has been run every New Year’s Eve: the Civil Protection service in Argentan, in the Orne department, will take revellers to and from their New Year’s Eve celebrations free of charge.
For the thirteenth year running, the Civil Protection’s “Saint-Bernards” will be keeping an eye on revellers’ safety on New Year’s Eve. This is a very good initiative, given that nine out of ten people will be drinking alcohol.
A free minibus
Using minibuses, Civil Protection volunteers will take revellers of all ages to their party venues free of charge on New Year’s Eve from 8 pm, and will bring them back until 8 am on 1 January, within a 30-kilometre radius. Last year, 680 people took advantage of this service, which involves 35 volunteers.
