The volunteer firefighter swept away by a torrent on Thursday is still missing this Friday morning. No fewer than thirty-five firefighters and three dog-handling teams searched for him all night, but to no avail.
The incident occurred whilst he was carrying out a rescue operation at a river in flood to save a family who had taken refuge on the roof of their car. He was swept away by the raging waters of the Breda, between Isère and Savoie. "More than 80 people are searching for him", said Gérard Collomb, the Minister of the Interior. According to the Savoie prefecture, as reported by France Bleu, two air ambulances and water-based resources have been deployed.
