Sad news. According to our colleagues at the Dauphiné, rescue workers have just recovered, near Détrier (Combe de Savoie), on the border between Savoie and Isère, the body of the volunteer firefighter who had been missing since Thursday afternoon in the Breda Gorges.
The body of Robert Sandraz, aged 64, was found under a bridge, near the spot where he had gone missing. The unfortunate man, who had fallen into the water whilst trying to rescue a family whose car had been swept into the river by a mudslide, is believed to have been caught in a whirlpool and his body to have become trapped in the torrent. A large police presence has been deployed to cordon off the area where the body has just been recovered and to facilitate the work of the rescue teams.
