According to *Le Point*, the father of Karim Cheurfi, the man who murdered police officer Xavier Jugelé, was arrested after having “glorified” and “justified” his son’s heinous act.
According to the newspaper’s report, the man, whilst under the influence of alcohol, had “already gone of his own accord to the police station to make statements amounting to the glorification of acts of terrorism and to issue death threats against the police officers on duty that evening. ’ On the second occasion, he ‘agreed with his son’s decision to kill a police officer whilst he was being stopped at a roadside checkpoint’. The police therefore decided to take him into custody and he was due to be brought before a judge shortly afterwards.
Xavier Jugelé was murdered by Karim Cheurfi on 21 April 2017 on the Champs-Élysées. The police officer was a member of Flag!, the association for LGBT police officers. During the national tribute held in his honour on 25 July, his partner, Etienne Cardiles, delivered a powerful and dignified speech that moved the whole of France.
