Sergeant Jonathan Lassus-David, who was seriously injured whilst responding to a major fire in Choisy-le-Roi (Val-de-Marne) last Wednesday, has died as a result of his injuries, according to our sources. The firefighter who died was a member of the first response team at the Choisy fire station, part of the 22nd Fire and Rescue Company and the 2nd Fire and Rescue Group of the Paris Fire Brigade (BSPP).
In a press release, the BSPP states: "He died in a fire whilst carrying out his demanding duties as a firefighter. His actions helped to evacuate residents who might otherwise have been victims of this incident. Once again, the BSPP has paid a heavy price in its day-to-day work to protect the public". According to our information, Sergeant Jonathan Lassus-David, who was in a civil partnership and a father, was originally from Oloron-Sainte-Marie, a town in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. In June 2011, he was awarded a medal for an act of courage and dedication, for having taken part, on 14 August 2010, in the perilous rescue of a 32-year-old man buried at the bottom of a well in the town of Castel-Sarrazin, in the Landes department.
A crime series
This is the fourth firefighter to have died whilst on duty since the start of 2018. On 5 January, at the age of 64, Senior Corporal Robert Sandraz, a firefighter with the Savoie departmental fire service, was swept away by the water whilst carrying out a rescue and safety operation. On 7 January, Corporal Jonathan Cottrez, aged 32, and Private First Class Arnaud Dauchy, aged 20, both firefighters with the Pas-de-Calais departmental fire brigade, died whilst responding to a major house fire in which four people were trapped.
