Yvelines: Attempted suicide at an emergency centre

On Tuesday afternoon, a 53-year-old professional firefighter attempted suicide by gunshot in the storeroom of the main fire station in Les Mureaux. Having been on sick leave for several months, he went to the station and shot himself in the head with a handgun. His colleagues on duty were present at the station at the time of the incident; they were alerted by the gunshot and quickly came to his aid. This chief warrant officer is a local representative of the CGT trade union. In a state of absolute emergency, he was transported under police escort to Percy Hospital. His condition remains critical. A psychological support team has been set up, and all staff at the rescue centre have been given time off. Firefighters from neighbouring centres are providing operational cover for the Les Mureaux first-response area.
