According to the figures released by the emergency services, seven people, including five firefighters, were killed on Saturday in a fire at an electronics factory in Taoyuan, in north-western Taiwan.

The fire spread through an eight-storey building housing a printed circuit board manufacturing plant.

Unfortunately, seven firefighters were trapped by large pieces of debris that had fallen during the fire whilst they were searching for victims. They were rescued on Sunday, but only two survived. Two workers from Thailand were also killed.

Traces of diesel and toxic chemicals were also found at the scene. This incident is the latest in a series of accidents at Taiwanese factories, raising questions about the safety standards applied in the country’s industry.
