It was World Firefighters’ Day
This Friday, France celebrated World Firefighters’ Day. This international day was established in 1999 in tribute to five firefighters who lost their lives in a bushfire in Australia on 4 January of that year.
The date of 4 May, St Florian’s Day, was chosen to pay tribute to firefighters. The SDIS 34, for example, tweeted yesterday to highlight just how important this global tribute is.
The Defence Ministry’s Centre for Communication and Audiovisual Production (ECPAD) has drawn on its extensive archive of over 12 million photographs to pay tribute to every firefighter, past and present, by publishing a portfolio dedicated to them.
