Morbihan: a gendarmerie motorcyclist killed
A tragic road accident occurred in Morbihan on Tuesday. A gendarmerie motorcyclist died after being violently struck by a car in Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys, near Sarzeau.
The accident occurred at around midday, according to the Public Prosecutor for Vannes, François Touron, who added that the gendarme was “returning to the station after completing his duties”. He was on duty with the motorcycle squad in Theix-Noyalo.
Despite receiving medical treatment at the scene from a Smur 56 team and the deployment of the Civil Protection helicopter, Dragon 56, the gendarme died at the scene.
The circumstances of the accident are not yet known. An investigation has been launched.
The driver of the car has been taken into custody as part of proceedings relating to the alleged offence of manslaughter through negligence.
