A new type of vehicle is set to join the Hérault SDIS fleet within the next few days.
Indeed, SDIS 34 has just announced that, in the coming days, it will be acquiring a “casualty assembly point vehicle”. Fitted with specialist equipment for treating large numbers of casualties, particularly those with gunshot wounds, this vehicle will also enable ‘damage control’ operations.
Adapting to the risk of terrorism
A medical approach that involves providing the minimum level of care necessary to ensure the patient’s survival, without seeking to address all of their problems. Damage control is employed in a critical situation, when resources are insufficient to provide comprehensive care for the patient.
"Fire and rescue services must adapt to changing risks, particularly when it comes to dealing with large numbers of casualties in the context of the terrorist threat" according to the Hérault fire service, who add that it is for this reason that
"The first vehicle, known as the 'victim assembly point vehicle', is in the process of being delivered".
This new vehicle will be based at the Sète fire station, a location considered strategic for reaching the largest towns in the Hérault department quickly, such as Montpellier, Béziers, Lunel and Agde.
