During the night of Saturday 12 to Sunday 13 May, the motorised brigade carried out roadside checks in Grisy-lès-Plâtre. The gendarmes stopped a man who had no points left on his driving licence, so the motorcyclists escorted him to the gendarmerie station in Pontoise.
Furthermore, both the driver and his passenger were under the influence of alcohol.
Determined to get his vehicle back, the driver waited for the police to leave before going to retrieve it. Once the gendarmes had gone, they climbed over the station’s fence and broke in to retrieve the car keys. The two men then left Pontoise in the Renault Clio; it was at around 8.30 am that a gendarme discovered the break-in and the theft of the impounded vehicle.
The Pontoise Criminal Investigation Unit swiftly launched an investigation. The Renault Clio was located in Paris’s 18th arrondissement.
In the early afternoon, the PSIG arrested the two men (one in Le Blanc-Mesnil, the other in Paris), who were then taken into police custody.
Appearing in court for an immediate hearing on Friday 18 May, they were given nine-month suspended prison sentences.
