Hauts-de-France: Off duty, a firefighter dies in a road accident
Emotions are running high amongst firefighters in the Nord region, according to our colleagues at France 3. "A lot of people knew him", one of them says. On that Sunday morning, a 25-year-old firefighter was riding his motorbike along the D649, the road linking Valenciennes to Maubeuge.
As he reached Saint-Waast-la-Vallée, the accident happened. His fellow firefighters quickly arrived on the scene to come to his aid. A SAMU helicopter was dispatched. But it was too late; the young man died at the scene of the accident.
