Key information:

  • Following an emergency call-out, the ambulance from the Pont-de-Roide fire station (Doubs) was travelling along the A36 on its way back to its fire station.
  • During the journey, a vehicle – a grey Citroën C3 – which was travelling in the wrong direction, collided head-on with the fire engines.
  • The driver of the vehicle, a 72-year-old man (trapped inside his car), died as a result of the force of the impact.
  • The driver of the VSAV was trapped and seriously injured. She was taken to hospital by the Civil Protection helicopter, the Dragon 25. Having lost consciousness and suffered several fractures, her condition is not life-threatening. Her life is therefore not in danger.
  • The team-mate and the apparatus coach, who sustained minor injuries, were taken to hospital for routine checks.
