Normandy: Firefighters involved in a head-on collision in an emergency ambulance

A collision took place between a fire service ambulance carrying three men and a car driven by a woman on Tuesday 5 June 2018, at around 2 pm, in Graye-sur-Mer. The woman was injured, as were two of the three firefighters, according to our colleagues at Ouest-France. “Fortunately, the injuries are only minor,” reassures Colonel Régis Deza, director of the Calvados Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS). At around 2.00 pm on Tuesday 5 June 2018, an ambulance (emergency and victim assistance vehicle) carrying three firefighters, and a car driven by a 25-year-old woman, collided in Graye-sur-Mer, on the Côte de Nacre. “The impact was violent. These three firefighters from the Courseulles-sur-Mer fire station were on their way to an emergency call after a person had been found unconscious,” explained Régis Deza. Emergency services had to be deployed to the scene of the accident. The 25-year-old woman, trapped in her vehicle, had to be cut free. She was injured and taken to hospital, as were two of the three firefighters who were travelling in the ambulance. The third firefighter, who was in a state of shock, was also treated. The investigation, led by the gendarmerie, will seek to determine the exact circumstances of the collision.
