In a highly sensitive situation, police officers received a very disturbing emergency call. The incident dates back to last Wednesday, when a call-centre operator answered an emergency call and a male voice told him that he was going to blow up the Thonon police station. The call was taken seriously, but very quickly the operator realised it was a prank in poor taste. The police officer then asked for the caller’s identity, and the caller complied, though he gave his name with spelling mistakes.
It has to be said that this identity is incorrect; the officers contacted the mobile network operator to identify the owner of the phone. Very quickly, the individual – a 35-year-old man – was identified, located and arrested by a police patrol at 4.15 pm.
He was brought before the criminal court for a summary trial and was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment.
