Several explosive devices were discovered on Monday 18 June at a construction site at the Hyères naval aviation base, according to our colleagues at
Var Matin.
Mine-clearing operations were underway at midday on Monday, and the fire brigade were at the scene, along with the national police.
All flights have been suspended
The establishment of a security perimeter necessitated the evacuation of civilian and military personnel working in the control tower.
All flights, take-offs and landings are currently suspended.
A road closed to traffic
It is not currently possible to say how long the mine-clearing operations will take, and therefore when air traffic will be able to resume.
The RD 197 leading to the airport has been closed at the Arromanches roundabout. A diversion has been put in place via the Route des Marais.
