Last Wednesday at around 11.50 am, a fire broke out at the foot of a block of flats on Rue Emmanuel-Rolland, in the centre of Grigny, according to our colleagues at *Le Progrès*.
Following a refurbishment project in this area, building materials – including window frames and the old shutters that had been replaced – had been stored in the car park.
Was it the magnifying effect caused by the windows and the sun’s rays that sparked the fire? Whatever the case, the pallets quickly burst into flames. Several firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
Heavy smoke had spread to the upper floors. Some of the building’s residents had to be evacuated. During the operation, two police officers and a firefighter had to be treated by SAMU medics.
Whilst the first two did not require hospital treatment, the firefighter had to be admitted to hospital after suffering from heatstroke. Once the fire had been brought under control, the tenants were able to return to their flat at around 1.30 pm.
