Fire in Sète: two firefighters taken ill

Two firefighters from SDIS 34 at the main fire station in Sète, who were called out on Monday evening to tackle a fire involving pallets of insulation material stacked at the foot of a four-storey building, between the Maison de la Mer and the University Institute of Technology, in Sète, were affected by the fumes from the release of harmful substances.

They were forced to leave the scene of the operation and return to their barracks, where they will be examined by a doctor. The alarm was raised at around 7.30 pm following a fire at a warehouse storing pallets of corrosive and irritant substances, which cause skin allergies. At 10 pm, the fire brigade were still dousing the substances with water.

Officers from the Public Security Department at Sète police station are at the scene to investigate. The aim is to establish the cause of the fire.
