A 20-year-old man living in Talant, near Dijon, went to the gendarmerie in Lons-le-Saunier, in the Jura, on Sunday. He admitted to being the person behind the video that has been circulating on social media since 6 July. He can be seen stealing and then getting behind the wheel of the fire brigade’s ambulance, whilst switching on the flashing lights. The scene was filmed by one of his friends.

The theft took place during the helicopter winch operation
The incident took place on 1 July on the shores of Lake Chalain in the commune of Fontenu (Jura).
According to initial reports, the man told the police that he thought the vehicle was being used for beach patrols. In fact, it was on an emergency call: firefighters from the Mont-sur-Monnet fire station were attending to a man in his seventies who had fallen onto the rocks. The theft took place whilst the helicopter rescue operation was underway. The lorry was found about a hundred metres further on.
SDIS 39 files a complaint
"We are obliged to keep emergency vehicles running during call-outs to power certain equipment and ensure the comfort of those in our care as far as possible" the Jura fire service told our colleagues at France 3 Burgundy-Franche-Comté. A complaint has been made regarding theft.
We have learnt that the public prosecutor’s office in Lons-le-Saunier has finally decided to issue a formal warning to the Côte-d’Orien in collaboration with our colleagues at *Le Progrès*.
