According to a report from our colleagues at Metro, Éric Florès, Director of the Hérault Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS 34), was promoted to the rank of Comptroller-General on Tuesday evening at the Vailhauquès site, west of Montpellier. At the age of 48, he has become the youngest General Inspector of the fire service in France. He has also been appointed a Knight of the Legion of Honour.
The award ceremony was attended by Pierre Pouëssel, Prefect of the Hérault, and Kléber Mesquida, President of the Hérault Departmental Council, accompanied in particular by General Jean-Valéry Lettermann of the Gendarmerie and the Comptroller-General of Public Security, Jean-Michel Porez.
Three levels
This rank of General Inspector was provided for in the decree of 30 December 2016, which established a career framework for planning and management roles within the Category A+ professional fire service. It comprises three grades and one exceptional grade. Stemming from the ‘Bacquet’ Act of 27 December 2016, this reform aims to ensure greater recognition of senior management posts within the Departmental Fire and Rescue Services and is intended to broaden opportunities for firefighters to move into senior civil service roles at both national and local levels.
