Avignon: multi-vehicle accident on the A7; the motorway is closed

A road traffic accident has occurred on the A7 motorway near Avignon. For reasons as yet unknown, a heavy goods vehicle crossed the central reservation. The accident involved several vehicles, some of which caught fire. The toll stands at three fatalities, one patient in critical condition airlifted to Marseille General Hospital, one patient in a less serious condition taken to Avignon University Hospital, and two uninjured. The ORSEC NoVi emergency plan has been activated. The operation currently involves around sixty firefighters and twenty gendarmes.
