It’s time for major changes to the regulations governing the uniforms of French firefighters.
The Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Crisis Management has just published three new guidelines aimed at updating firefighters’ uniforms. The three main changes relate to polo shirts, operational uniforms and footwear.
Polo shirts
There will be two types of polo:
- short sleeves.
- long-sleeved tops, which will replace the F1 shirts.
Service and Operational Uniforms
The changes to the service and operational uniform involve a redesign of the uniform and adjustments to the cut of the jacket and trousers.
The outfit will be used for the following activities:
- Duty in the barracks and off-duty.
- Operational operations: rescue of people, roadside assistance and other operations
- Firefighting operations: building fires involving the use of over-trousers, and wildfires outside the attack phase
Jacket:
- 'French Civil Protection Label' sticker on the left, beneath the red strip
- A red ‘SAPEURS-POMPIERS’ band positioned at chest height, running all the way round the body and featuring white lettering spelling out ‘SAPEURS-POMPIERS’
Trousers:
- A pocket on each thigh
- Straight-leg trousers with a non-permanent drawstring
Shoes
There will be two types of footwear, to be worn depending on the type of operation:
- Type A: used during rescue operations or various other interventions, excluding fire-fighting.
- Type C: used during general rescue and fire-fighting operations, excluding emergencies involving hazardous materials
